@Doctor-Phibes said in The Epstein File: @Horace said in The Epstein File: Maybe in several decades we'll get a release of everything, like was done with the JFK assassination files. Heard about any revelations, large or small, that came of them? Me neither. Try telling that to Ted Cruz. I have - and what he told me in response would blow your mind.

@xenon said in There go those goal posts: @Horace said in There go those goal posts: When you begin from the notion that the Trump campaign was always full of shit about their implications of all that dirt in the Epstein files, it begins to make a lot more sense. Occam is still firmly in the camp that there is no there there in those files. My best guess is that the government has little if any convictable dirt in the files. But this has become a cultural shibboleth. Either you believe that Epstein is illuminati or you don't. A lot of people in Trump's base believe it. That in and of itself is a problem for him now... TBD if people will forget about it. The Trump haters can't stop talking about how his base is totally fractured over this. I don't know how much of a point they have, but I do know that they think they can will a crisis into existence, if they just scream loudly enough that Trump is in crisis over this. I will grant that Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, and some other podcasters that helped get Trump elected, are deeply troubled by what they consider to be an obvious coverup. If they can grow their coalition, maybe someday we'll elect someone who'll fabricate whatever evidence their base wants to see.

We’ll see. In his first term he campaigned on allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. Then he got elected and Pharma rolled him in one meeting. Biden then got it done, at least a start, with 10 drugs.

One thing that occurred to me last night… I think there is a generation of kids out there now who know the Weird Al parodies better than the original songs… White & Nerdy achieved a lot more commercial success than Ridin’ Dirty… and kids that only heard American Pie a couple of times in their life can sing The Saga Begins by heart…

RIP. I saw him with Black Sabbath in 1978 just before he got kicked out of the band - it was their 10 year anniversary tour. The backing band was Van Halen!. It was easily the loudest gig I've ever been to, although it was my first one so maybe that affected the memory a little.

The Nats just fired their GM and coach, too. You know, you have to be the cream of the crop to even get to the big leagues, so I can see how any team can win any given day… usually it’s the teams that learn base hits are better than HR swings, and if they can get 2-3 strong starting pitchers… that’ll usually get them far into the post season.

@jon-nyc My understanding is that Hoover was personally more engaged with and always more focused on the threat from the various tentacles of the Kremlin and the Comintern than any threats posed from fascist Europe or Imperial Japan. He tended to steer the latter back to the military authorities whenever possible.
